There are many excellent museums in Amsterdam. There is something for people with diverse interests, whether it is museums that house works of art by some of the greatest painters in civilization or museums about the maritime history of the Netherlands. One of the city's oldest museums, Museum Ons' Lieve Heer op Solder, is located in the Red Light District, right in the middle of the bustling city center.

Here, in a stunning and distinctive 17th-century home with a church in the attic, tourists may get a rare glimpse into the Dutch Golden Age. Jan Hartman acquired the structure on Oudezijds Voorburgwal as well as the two nearby structures on Heintje Hoekssteeg more than 350 years ago.

  • Some Music Activities for Children:

Children aged 5 to 10 can participate in a few activities at Ons Lieve Heer op Solder as well. The 'Lieveheerbeestje op Solder' is a location where young children can embark on a quest or scavenger hunt. The reception sells this for one euro. There is a free audio tour for kids between the ages of 10 and 12 years old. The kids gain additional knowledge about the historical background of Christian celebrations like Christmas, Sinterklaas, Easter, and Pentecost throughout this audio tour.

  • The 17th-Century House:

Particularly well maintained is the original design of a seventeenth-century house with a chapel above. Two original back houses and a front house make up the complex, each having an entrance on Heintje Hoekssteeg. The neck gable was replaced in the eighteenth century by the current spout façade, which substituted a stone lower half for the wooden lower part with windows.

The front home can be accessed from the entryway, which is reached through a sidewalk. The front room was first used as a storefront but was changed into a living room in 1770. The Louis XV-style marble fireplace, which has the recognizable asymmetrical shell in the middle, is original to that era. Behind the store area, the original interior fireplace still retains a 1630s-era beamed ceiling.

  • The Church in the Attic:

Both of the back homes are enclosed by the three-story house church. Churchgoers from the Catholic faith may enter the building through a door on Heintje Hoeksteeg. A spiral staircase rose from there. Additionally, a staircase from the seventeenth century led to a separate entry from the house. A built-in bedroom was located in front of the curate halfway up the stairs.
