Forth Road Bridge

The Forth Bridges are a must-see when in Scotland. There are three of them, and they span three different centuries. Two parallel bridges cross the Forth River to connect Edinburgh and the Lothians to Fife. The Queensferry Crossing lies to the west and was the youngest of the bridges opened in 2017. Forth Road Bridge lies in the middle and was opened in 1964. Forth Bridge lies to the east and was opened in 1890.

The Forth Road Bridge is the only pedestrian and bicycle crossing of the Forth. Its location between the Queensferry Crossing and the Forth Bridge makes it an ideal spot for taking stunning pictures of both iconic structures.

• While the foot/cycle path on the east side of the bridge is available every day of the year, the one on the west side of the bridge is only open on Saturdays all year and Sundays in the winter.
• Traveling over or under the three Forth bridges is an opportunity to admire their massiveness from the water.
• Port Edgar Marina, on the south bank of the Firth of Forth between the Queensferry Crossing and the Forth Road Bridge, provides a fantastic vantage point to take in the new structure. Visit the nearby café for a bite to eat before crossing the bridge. Canoeing, sailing, and stand-up paddleboarding are some of the watersports you may try in the area. The Vat Run mountain biking course is located right next to the marina, so bring your bike and get ready for a race.
• Queensferry, located on the southern banks of the Firth of Forth, is a picturesque town. Enjoy an ice cream while strolling along the shoreline, learn about the history of bridge construction at Queensferry Museum, or ride your bike along a section of the John Muir Trail (which passes under all three bridges).
• See the fish at Deep Sea World, or take a stroll or ride your bike along the Fife Coastal Path west to Charlestown or east to Carlingnose Point and Dalgety Bay. Culross, with its ochre-colored palace, and Dunfermline, with its stunning abbey, are both within easy driving distance.
• Get on the train for a journey across the historic Forth Bridge; it will be one you will never forget. The vistas in both directions are breathtaking. The closest train stations to the Forth Bridge are the Dalmeny station (for South Queensferry) and the North Queensferry station.
