Masjid Al Ghamamah

The mosque is situated where the Prophet offered Eid prayers for the last four years of his life. He reportedly once offered Salatul-Istasqa at this time, when Medina was experiencing a rain scarcity. The mosque was given the name 'Ghamama,' which means cloud, as a result.

Some traditions indicate that the Prophet offered the burial prayer in this mosque for Najashi, the ruler of Aksum in Ethiopia. Despite being a Christian, Najashi welcomed the Muslim groups that had immigrated to his nation to avoid the persecution of the Quraysh and he later converted to Islam. However, when he passed away, no one was available to conduct the funeral prayers, so the Prophet offered his Janazah salah, the only time he ever did so in the absence of a physical body.

Until recently, the mosque, which is 500 meters west of Masjid An-Nabawi, was not open for daily prayers. Now that it is available, the mosque is used by worshipers who come to offer five prayers daily. To prevent the collision of noises from Masjid An-Nabawi, an internal sound system has been equipped at the mosque. The mosque still mostly resembles how it did during the Ottoman era when it had its most recent renovation.
