Il Cenacolo

One of the most well-known paintings is Leonardo da Vinci's Last Supper (also known as II Cenacolo). This painting depicts Jesus' final 'meal' with his disciples. This painting was completed between 1494 and 1498, during Ludovico il Moro's rule. This massive artwork, measuring 4.60 meters in height and 8.80 meters in width, was created using a technique different from that of the fresco period by applying tempera and oil to a gypsum preparation. Many preventative precautions have been taken to preserve the paint's integrity. After completion, the fresco began to deteriorate due to climatic and technical factors, despite repeated attempts at repair.

• Leonardo did rigorous research and drew an infinite number of rough sketches before he finally finished this one-of-a-kind masterpiece. Rather than using wet paint to create a fresco, Leonardo instead painted the refectory wall in a 'dry' style.
• Evidence of gold and silver foils found on the sculptures suggests that the artist went to great lengths to create lifelike depictions of the characters, even to the inclusion of priceless ornamentation.
• You can also visit Duomo Square, located near Leonardo da Vinci's The Last Supper. The statue of Victor Emanuel II, constructed in 1896 to honor the king of Italy, stands in front of the great gothic Cathedral of Milan in this square.
