El Presidio de Santa Barbara State Historic Park is a group of four historic houses in downtown Santa Barbara, California. These houses were built in the middle of the 19th century and are still around to show the history and architecture of the area.
The Casa de la Guerra, built in 1828 in a Spanish colonial style, is one of the buildings at the historic site. The Andalusian House is another one that was built in the early 1900s, and its garden has a fountain and beautiful tile work. The Lobero Building was built in 1871, and the Comandancia was built in 1873. Both of these buildings were used as military offices during the Mexican-American War.
A little-known fact about the Santa Barbara State Historic Site is that it was a big part of how California's state park system came to be. In the 1950s, the state of California bought the property. It was one of the first places to be turned into a state historic park.
Also on the site are several historic adobe buildings that have been carefully restored to look like they did when they were first built. These buildings give tourists an authentic look at how people lived in early California. People consider the Casa de la Guerra mansion one of the best examples of Spanish Colonial architecture in the state.
